Wednesday 27th July. By Paul.
I always wanted to see a wolverine and at Riggs glacier we finally saw one. Not that I needed to see one that night for the campsite to be one of my favorites, if not the favorite, of all time. We pitched the tent near the foot of two glaciers – Riggs and McBride, at the bend in a huge fjord. A small box of red wine was savored as we admired the views of hanging ice, massive waterfalls and impossibly steep mountains that dropped into the ocean.
Then, as I was hanging out our cooking clothes (so the bears don’t eat us), the wolverine caught my eye. It was being chased by some seagulls down on the beach 200m away. It ran from right to left, across the foreshore, in clear view of us, about 500m in total. Absolutely awesome stuff and it was wonderful to unexpectedly see this elusive animal.
